Thanksgiving dates back to 1621 when English settlers, known as Pilgrims, and the Wampanoag Native Americans shared a harvest feast.
This event is often referred to as the "First Thanksgiving."
However, the holiday we recognize today was not established until much later, with President Abraham Lincoln, proclaiming it a national holiday in 1863 during the Civil War.
The significance of Thanksgiving is to express gratitude, fellowship and reflection.
